Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy
It is important to recognize that pelvic health concerns are incredibly common and very treatable
Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy
Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy is provided by physiotherapists who have had additional training in pelvic health assessment and treatment and have rostered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.
Erica Zeman Hayes has completed her training in pelvic health with Pelvic Health Solutions.
Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy is evidence-based and takes a biopsychosocial approach to assessing and treating pelvic health problems. Issues treated include:
Urinary Incontinence
Urinary urgency/frequency
Pre and post-partum care
Low Back Pain and Pelvic Girdle Pain
Pelvic organ prolapse
Constipation
Perineal pain (Dyspareunia, Vulvodynia, Vaginismus, Vestibulodynia)
Urologically-based pelvic pain (Bladder Pain Syndrome/Interstitial Cystitis)
Gynecologically-based pelvic pain (ie. Endometriosis, Dysmenorrhea)
What to expect at your assessment and treatments
A comprehensive history will be taken
An external exam (breathing, posture, spinal and hip range of motion/flexibility, etc.)
An internal exam if appropriate. Often, an internal exam is important as it is important to assess the strength and tone of the pelvic floor muscles which are located inside the pelvis and cannot be assessed externally. If an internal exam is not tolerated for any reason, other assessment and treatment options are available.
